Action Heart 5 Mile Road Race

After 2 months of injury I took a chance on the Action Heart 5 at Dudley where there was a field of nearly 800 for what is mainly a fund raising run. Apart from the runners a large number of walkers set off beforehand from the start at Russells Hall Hosital. The course is quite demanding with a lot of the first 2 miles uphill and with more banks later on. The route is mainly urban but well marshalled and organised if not very attractive. I finished in 34.26 which was OK all considered and I was awarded second Veteran 60. However, there had been an error in the recording and I have since been given the prize for first Veteran 60. So, despite 'getting on' there is always something worth striving for. Bring on the vets relays V60 team with Clive and Alan! Race winner was Chris Penn, Birmingham Uni. in 26.50 and first woman was Melanie James, V35, Bournville Harriers in 30.54
