Bells of Pattingham
Sunday 19th October 2008
This year's Bells of Pattingham multi-terrain race saw several hundred competitors line up at the start including a good contingent of eight B&R runners.
Although it was a fairy cold, crisp day conditions underfoot were firm and many runners opted to run in road shoes rather than studs and fast times were expected.
The start was as expected quite a sprint to try not to get boxed in with Paul Collins, James King and myself in amongst the leading pack and John Manley not far behind.
The girls (Jane, Ann, Mel and Dagmar) all started off together in the pack with Mel finding that the best way forward was to adopt a 'panzer movement' and bulldoze her way through!
It was the first time I had done this race and found it an excellent, well marshalled course with a good mixture of fields and tracks around some beautiful countryside - not a bad way to spend my 48th (I know I don't look it!) birthday.
The race was won by Robin Sedman-Smith of Telford AC in a time of 41.07.
B&R results were as follows:
9 Ian Keyte 44.45
20 Paul Collins 46.37
22 James King 46.48
41 John Manley 48.27
173 Jane Hawkins 55.32
245 Ann Stuart 57.36
310 Melanie Hepke 59.31
371 Dagmar Prinzing 61.30
735 runners completed the course
Apres race drinks and Sunday lunch were enjoyed in the excellent local Boycott Arms.
