Not the Roman IX Road Race

Pete & Rowena put on class act at Stratford

Stratford AC managed to find a dry and mild if windy day for The Not the Roman 9. Unusually only 3 B&R runners took part in a field of 600. Some members had left entering too late in this very popular event which heralds the start of the new season.

Peter Hawcroft had a good event and finished 29th overall and 1st V55 in 48.38. Rowena Bales and Rob Mole had their own personal battle and swopped places several times with Rob eventually finishing in 57th place and 27th senior in 51.23. Rowena came in 3 places behind in 51.45 and was delighted to win the V45 category.

The race was won by Garry Payne ( George Elliot Striders) in 41.54 which was very impressive as he is a V50. Just as impressive was Sue Harrison V35 (Leamington) who was first woman and 5th overall in 44.13.

This really is a great event and one at which the club could do very well next year if we had a big turnout.

P.S. If you're wondering why it's called 'Not the Roman IX'- the race has been shortened from its old distnace of 9 miles when it was the 'Roman IX'.
